Community Life Project Empowers Grassroots Women to Participate Actively in Politics and Governance

Women make up half of the population in Nigeria and yet have less than 8% representation in leadership positions in the country. To increase the number of women in leadership positions both in public offices and within party structures, Community Life Project (CLP) organised a 3-Day training from September 25 to 27, 2014 for Community and Grassroots Women Leaders, Community Development Officers and Media Practitioners drawn from the 30 Local Government Areas in Osun state.

The highly interactive training equipped participants with knowledge and skills to organise and support women's candidacy and to put pressure on political parties to field more women candidates in the forth-coming elections.

Participants were also equipped with skills to analyse budgets and make inputs into budgets, especially at the Local level. 92 participants were present at the training.

The training involved group work and brainstorming sessions and it was participatory.
